Step by Step for Dummies-Housemanship!
After 11 months of 'honeymoon' period, I finally landed a job in Sarawak General Hospital (SGH)! Previously, there had been rumours about the long waiting time for the housemanship...who knew that it's gonna be THAT long....
As soon as you graduated with a medical degree, it is advisable to register ASAP for:
- Provisional registration under Malaysia Medical Council (MMC) (In person)
- SPAi (Online)
The reason being that the later you registered the later you will secure the houseman job!
After that, you would need to either send the required documents personally or simply email to Kementerian Kesihatan Malaysia (KKM) which consisted of:
Until then, make use of the waiting time to the fullest by doing whatever things that you like may it be travelling, spending time with the loved ones, experiencing something new or even part time jobs. Trust me...you will need it! Those would be one of the best moments in your life.
During my time, I joined the group chats in Telegram called 'Pre-Housemen Info Sharing' as well as 'Tapisan 27/06/2018' which were of great help to me. There were many many kind souls who would consistently update us in groups regarding the latest news on the housemanship applications. Therefore, I would urge you all to join as well.
Next! Onto the complicated parts!
On 18th January 2019, I received an email from KKM regarding the guidance on application on eHouseman website which would be opened on 23rd January 2019.

Email Received from KKM |
As soon as you received the email, you can now go to eHouseman website to register as a new user. Unfortunately, that is all that you can do for now...
After you registered successfully, you will soon receive a confirmation email.

During the 4 days period of waiting for the eHouseman application,
- Keep a list of the preferred hospitals that you wanted to do your training in
- Familiarise yourself with the eHouseman application by going through the KKM guidelines
At last! On the judgement day.....
- Make sure that you are using a computer with fast internet connections
- Log in into the eHouseman portal and open several tabs as there might be errors/crash during the application itself. Tab the 'key' icon over the top right corner of your computer to save your IC and password. With that, you don't have to key in those particulars every single time you opened a new tab.
- Get ready early (I had been sitting in front of the computer since 11.15am😂) and try not to be too nervous! The portal will be opened at 12PM SHARP
- Once you are in, quickly fill in all the infos which have *
- Search DIRECTLY for your preferred HOSPITAL NAME rather than choosing by the state! If you did the otherwise, most probably you wouldn't get into the 1st priority hospital that you desired
- After completing all those stated above, download and print out all of the 4 documents listed below your hospital placement which consisted of:
- Surat Tawaran
- Borang Kontrak Perjanjian
- Syarat-syarat Kontrak
- Panduan Mengisi Borang Perjanjian

The Lists of The Other Important Required Documents
- Go to SPA website to download the following 2 documents:
- SPA 6C (2014) Akuan Berkanun
- Borang Permohonan Pemeriksaan Kesihatan
- Wait for the MMC to update the date of collection for your provisional registration certificate on their main website. (During my time, it took about 6 days for us to know about the exact collection date)
The Official Announcement of the Date of Collection in the MMC Main Website - If you are going to collect personally, bring along a CERTIFIED TRUE COPY of your own:
- Surat Tawaran (only pg 1-3, need to be certified in EVERY SINGLE PAGE)
- Exam transcripts (if you have not submitted beforehand)
- MBBS certificate (if you have not submitted beforehand)
- If you need someone to collect on behalf of you, (SCANNED COPIES ARE NOT ALLOWED)

- A Letter of authorization
- KWSP (Employees Provident Fund)
- Go to your nearest KWSP office

- Keep the penyata KWSP with you
- Lembaga Hasil Dalam Negeri (LHDN)
- Go to the LHDN office
- Inform the recipient that you want to register
- Keep the penyata LHDN with you
- Before you visit LHDN, make sure that you have filled in the 4 Borang Perjanjian Kontrak (DO NOT STAPLE, DIRTY OR FOLD THEM)
- Tell them that you want to matikan setem. There are 2 options for this step:
- Purchase 4 setem hasil (RM10 x 4) in any post office beforehand and bring them along to LHDN
- LHDN has the setem(s) as well if you prefer not to buy it earlier in post office
- Just remember that DATE OF PERJANJIAN=DATE OF MATIKAN SETEM, which can be of ANY WORKING DAY
- DON'T have to wait until the PTM day to matikan setem
- Bank statement

- There are 3 required stamps (cops) that you must obtained from:
- Witness (Saksi) (He/She MUST NOT be the attending doctor) (find another MO to sign for that saksi component)
- The attending doctor
- Stamp from the lab (Cop Makmal)
- Only UFEME is needed
- You can ask the attending doctor to certify the Surat Tawaran needed for MMC at the same time
- Akuan berkanun
- Bring along your Surat Tawaran
- MUST be done IN FRONT of either a Magistrate (free of charge) or any Pesuruhjaya Sumpah in private firm (with fees)
- There are 2 required addresses in the form:
- Above (your HOME address)
- Below (the FIRM/MAJISTRATE OFFICE address)
- Surat Panggilan Program Transformasi Minda (PTM) and Lampiran A
- You would need to re-log in into the eHouseman website (typically the website will be updated 1 week prior PTM date)
- Fill in the details on your family background as well as your own and download it. This is the 'Lampiran A'
- Print out 2 copies of Surat Panggilan PTM and Lampiran A respectively
- Accommodation
- For those doing the houseman training away from home, it is advisable to start searching for rooms/houses ASAP
- I would recommend the telegram group chat 'Pre-Houseman Sharing' and facebook page 'Excellent HO Nowadays'. Normally, there would be advertisements on the room/house rents
- Passport-sized photographs
- Background colour could be either white or blue
- Prepare as many as possible with minimum of 12 pieces
- Rubber stamp
- You can either check your provisional number in MMC main website (under 'search for registered doctor') or wait until you collect the provisional registration certificate
- Some hospitals required the university name to be included on the stamp so please enquire from your respective hospitals
- My stamp format is as below:

ReplyDeleteHi there! Thanks for reading it and grateful that this is helpful to you
DeleteHi Tiffany! Hope you're doing well in SGH and thank you for the information. Just wanted to clarify, is it alright to leave tahun kelayakan on the pendidikan page in ehousemen website blank since there is no red asterisk? Thanks so much!
ReplyDeleteHi there! Tahun kelayakan should be filled in. But for ehouseman most of the infos have been filled in automatically. Hope this answered your question:)
DeleteHello, thank you so much for the information!
ReplyDeleteI have a few questions regarding the checklist of documents.
Do we get these borang in SGH or PTM? As these are the only ones I could not find online.
-borang butir-butir peribadi
-borang HRMIS
-prescriber registration form
-borang pas/tag nama
For immigration concerns, do I just need a passport? and do I need to get DP11 from immigration or i can just print it out and fill up the details?
Hi there :) please dont worry too much as those docs would be provided by sgh during the hospital orientation itself. If you're from either west Malaysia/sabah a blue passport is needed. In order to do that you would need to visit your state immigration for the blue passport issuing and once you are here in sarawak you would need to get another certification from the sarawak immigration itself together with the hospital confirmation letter.
DeleteIn conclusion this is what you can do for now:
1. Dont worry on the additional docs (they will be provided in the sgh during hospital orientation itself)
2. Try to get your blue passport done in your respective state if you're from west Malaysia/Sabah
Hope these clarify your doubts
Hi Tiffany, thank you for the helpful information!
ReplyDeleteI was wondering about you saying 'the later you registered the later you will secure the houseman job' - which stage will be delayed? Will the eHouseman application be available later, or the starting day of the job, or any of the stages in between?
Thanks again!
Hi there thank you for reading my blog :) it basically means that your mmc registration will be delayed. Yes all the above that you've mentioned will still be available but all of them would be delayed if your registration got delayed.
DeleteHi Tiffany! Thanks for the info! I do have the passion to become a doctor but I got influenced and discouraged due to the issues happened in Malaysia regarding contract medical officers and more. Can I secure myself as a permanent staff after all these issues?
ReplyDeleteHi there! If medicine is your passion then you should pursue it. It is undeniable that things are getting more discouraging here for us but I believe the situation won't last long. Work your way up and try to get as many credibility as possible (get involved in research publication, taking external exam) during your ho later. Then your chance to secure a permanent position would be promising. Dont ever let those issues dim your passion :)
Deletehi there ! may i know how many intake are there in total and when ? because as far as i heard there are april intake and august intake. thank you for answering :)
ReplyDeleteHi! Usually there will be 3-4 intakes per year (early-feb/march, mid-july/sept, end-nov/dec )
DeleteHi Tiffany 😊 i would like to ask regarding ho placement. As i deferred my placement before, so my spa application is aldy more than one year, wat should i do Actually? Thanks.
ReplyDeleteHi Tiffany. Just wondering if i need to certify ALL my documents? And will the EPW form (No. 24) and the others in the checklist that are not in the checklist given with the offer letter will be provided by SGH? Thank you in advance :)
ReplyDeleteHi there! All docs do not need to be certified hee and yes the forms required would be prepared by SGH during your orientation as well :)
DeleteThank you so much for your fast response! 😁 Doing my HO there soon, wish me luck!
DeleteGood Luck!
DeleteHi, may i know based on your experience, which department should i go fisrt in SGH as the first poster?
ReplyDeleteHi! Well I would recommend either medical or surgical as both of them are the major components which made up medicine. Having said that, if based on my own experience, medical can be quite overwhelming as a first poster due to the workloads as well as the limited manpower we faced here... surgery is busy as well but it is manageable. So as a novice who just started to practice medicine, you would need time to adapt to the new environment as well. Thus, surgery would be a good starting point.
DeleteBut either way, what i could tell you is that leave the one you're most interested in as your last!
Hai tiffany... how the ho life at the sgh? I got posted there and im from semenanjung.. im so scared as i heard the extension rate is high at sgh.. do you mind sharing your experience there?
ReplyDeleteHi! First of all thank you for reading my blog and welcome to SGH😄
DeleteHoship is undoubtably one of the most stressful periods in your lifetime but once you’re able to go through it trust me you can go through anything! As for the extension hmm I think as long as you didn’t do something that crosses the line it’s not something that you should be worried of haha
For now just enjoy your remaining ‘holidays’ before the war starts
Good luck and hope to see you around someday
Hi Tiffany.. Is it true that all the documents need not to be certified?? Or have they changed the requirements? What about LHDN account?? Do I need to do that? or I jz have to get the Duti Setem? Pls reply me. I'm in crisis 😂.
ReplyDeleteHi there yeap as I’ve stated above those required documents need NOT to be certified and as for LHDN unfortunately you would have to go to your nearest branch to create one...
DeleteWish i have encountered your blog earlier :3
ReplyDeleteHi! Hope it still helps somehow :))
DeleteHi Tiffany..Im starting my HO soon and I plan to choose Sarawak either Sibu or Miri but the thing is I dont know anyone there and am planning to stay at the hospital hostel. Do you know who I should contact in the hospital to ask bout that? Thanx..
ReplyDeleteHi Tiffany. I hope you're doing well. I would like to ask how's the HO life in SGH like? Would you recommend it for others to choose SGH as their choice of hospital for HO? Thank you.
ReplyDeleteHi there first of all thanks for your comment :) I guess life as a HO would be hard no doubt regardless of whichever hospital. The most important is your perseverance and strong mentality. Having said that, since SGH is the only tertiary centre in sarawak, you would expect much more workload but at the same time this offers you a greater hands on opportunities besides being able to see many rare yet interesting cases. For eg when I was still a ho, I got the chance to perform SVD first hand and appendicectomy under supervision as well. Personally, SGH would a great choice if you wanted to gain more experience both clinically and skills. Hope this somehow helps in your decision. Have a great day
